I’ve tried a couple of the leading galleries and I’ve been poking around, but so far to no avail.
What I’d like to do is have image A (perhaps designed to look nice sitting on the page) launch an image gallery with images B-whatever in it.
I’m using this to show a zoomed up part of a screenshot on the page that would then show the whole screenshot or a few in a lightbox, ideally sized at about 80% of the browser window with vertical scrolling if its a long comp.
I don’t want to hack at it by using JS or CSS shims and an image somewhere else, I just want a block that lets me choose a different thumb for the gallery.
That seems like a fairly common use case that others would enjoy. Has anyone found a gallery with that feature set in our marketplace? If not, any gallery add-on owners interested in a great feature idea?
Hey Franz, the light box block in Modena lets you set a different thumbnail to the large image, and you can use the gallery option to link up multiple instances to act as a kind of gallery. May not suit your needs entirely but could get you over the line until you get something more suitable.
You can do similar with Omni Gallery, so the lightbox opens a different image to the one in the gallery/slider.
On the Image Selection tab, ‘Link Image to’ selection can be used to select an image attribuite. Configure a file/image attribute for the galley image, then the lightbox will open the image from that attribute.
Omni Gallery also provides very fine control of the thumbnail used in most sliders or galleries, so you could alternatively do similar with thumbnail variations of a single image by specifying a cropped thumbnail for the gallery then the full image for the lightbox.
With respect to your more detailed behaviour, where clicking an image in one gallery/slider triggers navigation in a second gallery/slider, that is a behaviour on my roadmap I have done some work on, but not completed. Please email if you would like to discuss that in more detail.
I may be missing it because there’s a lot of concepts to wrap my mind around in Omni Gallery, but I don’t think this is what I’m looking for… This looks like Thumbnail A launches gallery of image A-whatever.
That’s cool, but what I’m looking for is
Thumbnail A launches gallery of Images B-whatever…
Does that make sense?
Imagine the page has a pic of like a laptop computer at an angle showing a comp open on it, and when i click that computer, I get a gallery of comps full width that I can scroll up and down in.
Apologies if that’s what you’ve done and I’m too dense to see it.
Please read down in the demo page to Link Image to. The last paragraph explains how an image in the selecting gallery can make the navigated slider navigate to a different image.
It is essentially the same attribute trick as I suggested in (1) above to map one image to another image in a lightbox. The difference is in this application it triggers the navigation in the navigated gallery rather than immediately showing an overlay.
