Sudden change of layout from 3 columns to unknown format

Hi everyone. After the last update (but not immediately after it) and after running regenerate thumbnails task (as I have disabled high DPI) the parts of my layout that has been running nicely for months changed from 3 ensemble column layout to the unknown format layout, causing the images on the page turn large. As I haven’t touched layout issues for a long time (business site, running smoothly) it was a shock that these things just happen. Anybody has encountered something similar? Please help me to understand how is it possible. The site is created using Modena template with a custom made light-box used in some areas. The update was to version 9.3.4 that is currently running and (maybe) caused this problem. Thank you all, Alex

Can you post the url?

Hi Tim, it’s fixed now. Had to create new 3 columns layouts and drag blocks from the unknown layouts into it, deleting the empty unknown layouts afterwards.

The question remains how coud it happen?

A few months ago I had a similar incident on a customer site. They had created a named layout. The named layout disappeared after an update taking the contained blocks with it into zombie land.

Without going too far into editing history, the layout had been created as a one-off single use solution, then the customer slipped into repeated use rather than coming back to me to provide a general solution.

After the layout disappeared I created a general solution with a block template.

Maybe there is something questionable going on with named layouts. But I don’t have evidence to actually conclude there is a bug.

Thank you John. In my case it was a custom made light-box by David Kendall that was repeated as a block in the 3 column layout. Example here: Moana :: newztravel No problems with it until it all suddenly went to the dogs. Instead of 3 columns ensemble layout it turned to: unknown layout and looked like that:

I haven’t changed anything on the site. It just happened and it’s rather worrying as it makes me unsure of the concrete’s stability… Spent whole evening fixing it back to 3 columns layout.

If a layout is used more than a few times, I create a ‘Container’.

After a while I realised I was doing similar in many places and that is how I ended up with my Container Magic addon.

By named layouts - do you mean presets?

Presets are effectively named layouts that come with the theme.
