Upgrading - 8.3.2 to 8.4

I tried to upgrade from 8.3.2 to 8.4.
I clicked install and then waited. I got a message saying it needed PHP 7.3 so changed on my hosting and then went back and installed.
This completely broke my site!
I could not then go back by reverting to PHP 7.2, the site was simply destroyed and I had to restore from previous backup.
Is this a bug or is there another way to update that’s safe please as want to upgrade further?

@deanhawthorn Did you upgrade straight to 8.4.4? Or do it incrementally? 8.4.1 then 8.4.2 and so on?

Actually looking again, the CMS is saying this…
The latest version of concrete5 is 8.5.9. You are currently running concrete5 version 8.3.2.
Then there is a ‘update’ button. so i probably just clicked it.
Not quite sure how the site knows this, as the site is no longer connected to the community.
I tried reconnecting and got a message saying the version of concrete5 is incompatible with the new connection, so i’m a bit stuck to be able to control the update.

When i get time i will try doing a manual update.

Thanks for your help
